admin Equinom is a quality seed breeding startup which after good results in the agro-based industy has finally closed its Series B round of $10 million funding led by the German firm, BASF Venture Capital. It was followed by French firm, Roquette and Trendlines group, Israel.
The company has designed Smart seeds which according to initial reports are more nutritious than the traditional commercial seeds as it features the highest amounts of protein and oil content in the market.
In the Seriest B funding event, Tel Aviv-based Fortissimo Capital, which is Equinom’s current investor, also participated in the event.
Equinom had combined the advanced sensory technologies with high-throughput protein analysis systems to introduce such high-value and high-quality seeds in the market. CEO of the company, Gil Shalev, established the firm eight years ago with the aim of feeding the world with high protein and nutritious food.
In the last five years, Equinom has become one of the most preferred brand of sesame seeds suppliers which generate mechanically harvested varieties.
These high-quality seeds are going to enter the market in 2021.
Shalev said: “We also plan to launch our high-protein pea variety in 2021. Equinom will continue working with plant-based food ingredients and food companies to help create tasty, ‘cleaner’ plant-based applications. We already have clients producing products with our smart grains, which provide higher quality, improved nutritional values, and lower production costs.”
Shalev found the investments to be very complete as it comprised of financial and strategic investors and VCs from around the globe.He added: “It will accelerate Equinom’s expansion globally and allow us to build talent and infrastructure to better serve our clients locally. Already, we have enjoyed phenomenal sales growth across four continents in 2019.”
